How Do You Know What Interview to Prepare For?
We just launched a new interview series on the GetDoolen Training Platform, built to help job seekers prepare for whatever interview style may come their way.
One-on-one interviews.
Panel interviews.
Behavioral interviews.
Situational interviews.
Screening calls.
Final interviews.
The goal is simple, help candidates walk in prepared, confident, and ready to compete.
This series adds to the free training already available on the platform, including how to write a better resume and how to identify roles that are actually a good match.
Then I was asked a powerful question:
How does a candidate know what type of interview to prepare for?
Great question.
At a minimum, if you are invited to interview, you should ask these four questions:
1 - Who will I be interviewing with?
2 -Do you have a short bio for them, or is their LinkedIn profile current?
3 - Can you share the most current job description for the role, not just the job posting?
4 - What style of interview will be conducted?
That last one matters.
A job posting and a job description are often not the same thing.
A recruiter screen and a panel interview are not the same thing.
A casual conversation and a structured behavioral interview are not the same thing.
Preparation only works when you know what you are preparing for.
And here is my honest opinion, if a company cannot or will not answer those basic questions, that may be a red flag.
Not always a dealbreaker, but definitely something to pay attention to.
Candidates should be expected to prepare, but companies should also be expected to communicate clearly.
Do you agree or disagree?
What did I miss, and what would you add?
